Organisational Structure

As a ‘hyphenated federal state’, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania consists of historically heterogeneous parts. In a nationwide comparison, however, this is not the exception but the rule. It should therefore be seen as a strength for the formation of a common historical identity. However, recognising this diversity of traditions as an asset also means treating the different parts of the state equally when researching and communicating history and culture. To this end, the future centre will seek close coordination with stakeholders in both parts of the country. It can limit its own work to Mecklenburg, as the Interdisciplinary Research Centre Baltic Sea Region at the University of Greifswald is a strong academic partner institution for the other part of the state.
