Mobility 2025 Theme Year - State History Round Table - Mecklenburg-Western Pommerania

The Round Table on Regional History is a broad alliance of archives, libraries, heritage centres, museums, universities, historical commissions, associations and working groups. This alliance has called for a joint themed year in 2025. From January to December, campaigns, exhibitions and events throughout Mecklenburg-Vorpommern will be dedicated to the mobility of people, objects and ideas. The highlight will be a conference on 12 and 13 September 2025 in Güstrow.

History of the Mecklenburg regional language since the Second World War

The two volumes of ‘Geschichte der mecklenburgischen Regionalsprache seit dem Zweiten Weltkrieg’ (History of the Mecklenburg regional language since the Second World War) deal with questions of the history of the Mecklenburg language based on selected phonetic/phonological, morphosyntactic and lexical phenomena as well as the language attitudes of contemporary witnesses. For the first time in regional language research, the varieties of origin of the displaced persons who came to Mecklenburg after the Second World War are also included. Two competing contact varieties met here after the Second World War - regional Low German, the varieties of origin of the displaced immigrants and (regional) High German.

The two volumes are part of the publication series ‘Regionalsprache und regionale Kultur Mecklenburg-Vorpommern im ostniederdeutschen Kontext’, which has been producing regular publications on linguistic, historical and didactic topics since 2017. Both titles are available as Open Access.
